Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, has directed and released a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds live-action short film.

Revealed on PUBG’s Twitter, this collaboration is in celebration of PUBG launching on the PlayStation 4 tomorrow, December 7, and stars Jason Mitchell, also of Kong: Skull Island, and “a Level 3 pan.”

Speaking to IGN, Vogt-Roberts said that this short film is just “one more step of me wanting to bring games to film in an impactful way.”

“It’s Jason Mitchell from KONG / STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and Nick Robinson from KINGS OF SUMMER / Jurassic world / love Simon, so it’s this weird nexus of my old and new work,” Vogt-Roberts explained. “Rob Alonzo stunt coordinator of Deadpool and ghost protocol worked with me on fights, Chung-hoon Chung of OLDBOY and IT shot it (which is wild as there’s an Oldboy hallway fight homage). They really let me go nuts with this and design an action scene in their world and it’s just one more step of me wanting to bring games to film in an impactful way.”

This PUBG film comes only a few days after Legendary announced that Vogt-Roberts will be directing a TV adaptation of Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation, a novel by Blake J. Harris.

As for Metal Gear, Jordan Vogt-Roberts shared the first script details earlier this year and said that while he won’t be “adapting something verbatim,” his goal is to “try and translate what the fans want and expect, and to really take the unwieldy, amazing, decades-spanning timeline and have a way to make part of that make sense as a film.”

He also discussed how he would make a Zelda movie and, among other things, said he believes Link should not speak the entire film.
