Blow the Man Down – Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Wiki Guide

Blow the Man Down is one of the Principi quests found in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

This quest begins as soon as you get your boat back. While sailing the waters, you’ll be forced into speaking with another boat captain who will begin the quest.

After learning about Benweth, the man who sunk your boat the first time, you will also learn that he is expected to dock at Fort Deadlight. It’s a pirate’s haven, located to the south-west portion of the Deadfire region. When you arrive at the fort (which is marked on your map), you are given 3 options. You can sneak in to the fort if you have a Principi Flag, you can row in on a skiff at night or try attacking the fort. The first two options are the wisest. Attacking the fort is only recommended if you are doing this quest a bit later in the game, and have had time to build up the power of your boat. Once you arrive in the fort, go speak to Sceydwin. She is tied to a post in town and if you ask her about the horn, you can learn that Benweth uses horns as an alarm.

While inside the Court, speak to Mirke to trigger the next part of the quest. She tells you Benweth is locked upstairs and won’t come down unless a fight breaks out, or a party. Ask her how to start a ruckus and she will tell you that a rare keg of rum can be stolen to get the party started. Next, ask her how to safely steal the keg and she will tell you that the guard blocking the path owes a lot of money.

Before doing anything else, make sure to approach the harpsichord that’s nearby. If you have a bomb in your inventory, you can rig it to the instrument. Do it, because this is how you will kill Benweth after the quest ends. If you don’t have a bomb, you can steal one from a box while also stealing the rum later.

Now head to the stairs that lead to the Ramparts and tell the guard that she lost her money due to the person using loaded dice. She runs off, letting you go upstairs. Once you get up top, immediately enter stealth and only use one character to walk around. Them rum is in a locked chest that’s not far, just past the crane. Sneak to the chest, unlock it (Mechanics 4), get the rum then quickly get out before you’re caught.

Return to Mirke and the party will start but Benweth won’t show up. Ask her what to do next and tell her you want to make the party crazier. She will say you need some special stew, but it’s guarded in the dungeons. Ask her how to get past the guards and she will tell you that they might move if you let them know a party is happening. Head to the dungeons and when you do, most of the guards will run past you.

Head to where they came from, and you will spot a kitchen with a lone woman in it. Talk to her, ask for the stew, then leave. Return to Mirke and give her the stew. At this point, the party gets even crazier and Benweth will finally show up. If you planted the bomb on the harpsichord, he will die. If you did not, you’ll have to find an alternative way to deal with him, which will likely lead to a large fight, so be prepared.
